Yet, they don’t shift from AI and assume it’s my fault they are struggling. And then, the opportunities to build rapport are replaced with their AI submissions, so they are less engaged and evaluate me lower when I’m teaching the same way as I have for a decade…

Instead of asking me for help, students use AI to make study guides (at most, they talk to me to ask “permission” if they can use AI to study), but I’m the one making the exams? I’ve gotten a lot more students struggling who say they are doing extensive studying, but the issue is studying with AI.

The number of students yesterday who asked if they could use AI for studying even if they didn’t use it for assignments aged me by 5 years each. They are asking to use AI in an introductory course that doesn’t even have cumulative exams… What is it doing for you above & beyond what you already do?

Yes, but we also have plenty of research that raising psychological wellbeing raises physical wellbeing through many pathways (less illness, less stress, engaging in healthy behaviors more, better sleep, etc.), so they likely saved more on healthcare (both physical and mental health) expenditures.

It’s also a good way to help tell people which things they should keep for identity verification or maybe even voter registration! And the family portraits?? The campaign staff deserve to run the city, but they could do so much good in the political/campaign strategist realm moving forward.

It’s wild how creative but smart a simple paper shredding event is. In NYC, it’s so easy for unneeded paper waste that has personal information on it to stack up at home because you don’t have a shredder, don’t know how to dispose of it, or want to recycle it but don’t know the best way to do it.
