I'm a big fan of people, history, cities, bicycles, transit, and giving a damn.

City Councilmember in Springville, Utah
(he/him)
We found Mari Lwyd at Springville's Holiday Festival last night. My first time encountering this Welsh custom.

Ruined a perfectly good trail is what they did!

Also, this from their website made me laugh

These are war crimes.

This is why the regime overreacts to any talk of lawful vs unlawful orders, they know what they're doing is unambiguously illegal.

Of course I had to get a photo with these celebrities!

This is interesting. SLC council member Eva López Chávez says she has NOT actually endorsed Ben McAdams for Congress.

I've been invited to speak at the BYU Stewardship Symposium this Saturday! I'm nervous, so I wouldn't mind seeing some friendly faces in attendance. It's free and there will be some great presenters.

The keynote speaker, if you're interested, is Gérald Caussé, the newest Apostle of the LDS Church.

My view of the aurora from the five-hour city budget meeting tonight. Not too bad.

HELL YEAH 😎 Marsha Judkins is now in the lead for Provo Mayor!

Every ballot drop has favored her, so it's not likely Kaufusi will recover in subsequent updates later this week.

It looks like the entire slate of NIMBY incumbents in Orem is getting wiped out by forward-thinking moderates.

It's a really big deal for Utah County; these reactionaries have been a roadblock to countywide improvements like BRT on a remained State Street.

The Utah Trail Network will be fully separated from roadways, even with a heavy emphasis on grade-separated crossings!

From their FAQ page:

Another headscratcher is this connection between Spanish Fork and Springville that uses Union Pacific RR right-of-way. This dotted line isn't on either city's plans, so where did UDOT get the idea?

And if the RR *somehow* agreed to share their ROW, why not take it the whole way? Why zig-zag?
October 29, 2025 at 5:31 AM
There are a couple headscratchers that pop out to me in this initial plan.

For example, in Sanpete County why does this trail make a 3-mile detour and add 15 minutes of travel instead of continuing alongside SR-132?

I'm interested to hear estimates of Provo crowd size. Looking back at the April protest I now remember there were ~2K people (some estimates even said 4K or 5K?).

Today's crowd was clearly MUCH larger. Looked to me like ~5x as much street face. (April's crowd space in yellow, today's in red).

Wow! HUGE crowd at the #NoKings protest in Provo today! I rode through on my way to canvas for mayoral candidate Marsha Judkins.

I'm seeing estimates of over ~2,200 people, which matches my own observations—easily five or six times as many people as the previous protest in April.

Very silly to say the map on the left lacks geographically compact districts while touting the map on the right.

(Context: Utah's Congressional maps were found to be illegally gerrymandered and we are now in the process of redistricting)

Practically every inch of Utah's Uinta Basin is dotted with the same petro-pox and all the accompanying access roads for oil trucks.

I may or may not have done the same! I also couldn't stop myself from purchasing the little Citroën Ami Matchbox car.
