Music is probably a better example of this, you don’t exactly listen to it mindlessly BUT you’re also not mentally responding to a question or a back and forth as strenuously as “oh my god what IS the morality of making animatronic of long dead figure heads?”

It’s not that I want media that doesn’t make me think, but fiction has a way of being both involved and soothing, even if itself is not soothing - like it’s a good way to engage with a sort of extra wall between the world and you, and I get less immediately feral
