Some good news about Mum, now able to sit up, keen to have food. And just before the news came I spotted this little omen just outside the back door, which I would like to share with you all:

Saturday breakfast service. Who wants eggs?
January 10, 2026 at 9:22 AM
Oh yes.
January 9, 2026 at 1:17 PM
We are safe, warm, and seem to have sustained no major damage. Power has been a bit unpredictable but is currently on. I think we got away with it rather lightly, compared with some further West and South.
Because I’m a big nerd have Storm #Goretti in graphs:
January 9, 2026 at 10:39 AM
Spicy winds gusting 60mph or so but power despite a few flickers still holding out!
This is quite a pointy curve though!
January 8, 2026 at 10:00 PM
What a difference an hour makes….
January 8, 2026 at 7:57 PM
Hold on to your hats!
Eye passed, pressure rising, wind direction around a full 180 degrees, and now the wind is ticking up again…
January 8, 2026 at 7:50 PM
And here we go.
Wind now NW, fully 180 degrees around the clock from where we were no more than an hour ago, wind gusts starting to increase, pressure bottoming out about 970, eye of storm jackpot achieved, I guess. 👀
Time to hold on to our hats!
January 8, 2026 at 6:52 PM
It is now still as still as still )2mph sustained), softly falling rain, look at that wind direction chart…
January 8, 2026 at 6:40 PM
Barometer is still falling now 970.9 but suddenly eerily quiet. Wind was SSE an hour ago.
January 8, 2026 at 6:23 PM
This thing *has* a bottom, yes? 😱
January 8, 2026 at 5:32 PM
Cornish friends. Dawlish line (what I am now on): blowing out again tonight somewhere?
January 8, 2026 at 2:26 PM
Looking a bit something on the Exe…
January 8, 2026 at 2:23 PM
Buckle up lads and lasses… 👀😱
January 8, 2026 at 2:14 PM
Wheeeeeee! #Goretti
January 8, 2026 at 1:11 PM
Yes I am *this* accidentally retro.
January 8, 2026 at 12:40 PM
On the train home. Keeping it classy as always.
January 8, 2026 at 12:15 PM
I find these flex gaps on the circle line trains completely mesmerising and always try and sit next to one.
January 8, 2026 at 7:53 AM
Um. Yikes??
January 7, 2026 at 5:20 PM
I mean it’s not… *that* weird? If you squint a bit?
January 6, 2026 at 1:32 PM
I feel like I should add my rather multi-generational collection of Mac hardware to the conversation!
January 6, 2026 at 1:19 PM
Still bitterly cold but heart-stoppingly beautiful on the moor today.
January 6, 2026 at 11:04 AM
Thinking we might get a sprinkle more snow…
January 4, 2026 at 4:39 PM
Anyway, who wants breakfast?
January 4, 2026 at 10:23 AM
For city people who scoff at descriptions like “it was a dark and stormy night” this is a “bright and moonlit night” on the moor, bit of snow, no artificial light.
