This isn’t as bad as its headline, but it’d have benefited from reminding readers what the ECHR mainly prevents governments from doing in the immigration field, ie expelling people to face torture or similarly inhuman treatment, and tearing apart families with non-British members for no good reason

I've said it before: anyone who runs down the job that teachers do, even for such nakedly political reasons rather than from any real place of conviction, (a) should try surviving even a fucking WEEK of it themselves and (b) should then go to the bottom of a well.

Just to say that teachers do an incredibly difficult job, with all the right intentions, and can be the defining influence on a young person's life. They are the exact opposite of poisoners because good teaching provides the antidote to so many dangers

There's definitely something there indicative of the wider enshittification of all the professional trades ie you can't do it properly because of surrounding ignorance. Possibly something to do with getting rid of all the over 50s after 2008 and a lack of any experienced in-house training afterwards

When I see this, I wonder if people realize that Jim Crow racism in the American south was a type home-grown fascism. It was not (just) a superficially genteel system of social deference. Refusing to defer was often met with incredible violence designed to terrorize the entire Black community.
