Deeply worrying and shocking that not only most of Reform UK voters but also nearly half of Conservative voters think that permanent residents in the UK should be deprived of their “indefinite leave to remain”.

The majority of Reform UK voters would see indefinite leave to remain removed from all of the groups we asked about, apart from those who have lived in the UK for 20+ years

This move might negatively impact research and innovation in the U.S.: H1b was a common visa for excellent postdoc scientists to move to the U.S.

More than 100 Palestinian students been granted scholarships at Italian universities but are unable to leave Gaza, according to a network of associations.

The associations call on the Italian government to act so that scholarship recipients can travel to Italy.

Do courts unduly restricts deportations of migrants?

Arjen Leerkes and @albertkraler.bsky.social argue that
courts generally support deportation while still safeguarding absolute rights (e.g., against torture) and balancing family and integration ties.

🔊 We’re looking for researchers working on migration at universities, research institutes, and think-tanks in Africa and Europe.

👉 We’re conducting a study to understand how researchers think about the drivers of international migration.

This long article made me think of a similar piece by the Economist's Charlemagne a couple of weeks ago (with a slightly misleading title and more balanced conclusions).

Sounds like a water-proof business plan. Hiking is also much safer than some alternatives: @andrewpgeddes.bsky.social once nearly gave the director of a famous Swiss project a heart attack by taking him on a grueling ride over these same Florentine hills.
