hmm?
I need a video game that's mostly about grinding up skills for incremental improvements. My current library's level-grinding options are far too limited and focused on making levels feel impactful.

I want to chop 100 logs and get 1% better at chopping logs as a reward.

Here’s a comment for the people who are upset that MN hasn’t charged Jonathan Ross already:

If you just Leeeroy Jenkins this shit you will lose and you will empower fascism and murder.

It is indescribably hard to prosecute cops for murder. It is even hard when the murder is ON VIDEO.

"Secret police" is often misunderstood to mean a force that operates covertly, with all their operations secret.

But a secret police force's actions are often public. The secret part is hiding their identities, because they're breaking laws to hurt politically disfavored people, and fear reprisals.

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

Occasionally a fluffy pop-interest news article wanders in front of my view, and the level of AI-generation and/or lack of editing in that space looks really dire.

I've only been to Minnesota once, and I had an extraordinarily bad time.

But everything I read about it these last few years puts it pretty high on my list of places I'd actually like to live given my pick of anywhere. Minneapolis sounds great.

You could definitely sell a video game that was *just* a character creation interface, right? Like just fiddling with an absurd amount of sliders (ideally with inscrutable and/or bizarre labels and functions), and then no actual gameplay after finalization.

My favourite take on this, just in sheer absurdity, is the 2018 Robin Hood where the entire first act is shot like an Iraq War movie, complete with Saracens ambushing English longbowmen with automatic crossbow emplacements and shoulder fired scatterbows. It's such a pristine parody of the genre.

The American news outlets who seem to be unaware that the US has not actually conquered Venezuela are really weirding me out.

I want to talk about this international law perspective on the Venezuela raid, but I don't want to engage the 2 layers of Bluesky folks who put it in front of me, so I just pulled this from Twitter myself.

From a Mexican civil rights lawyer (Google mostly agrees with Twitter's translation).

A college sophomore at an Occupy rally could not have generated such a grotesque outsized caricature of US imperialism
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

The Venezuela raid strengthens the "everyone is 12" model of US politics. "What if we just Batman'd the bad guy out of his country and gave him to the cops!" is an extremely 12-year-old proposal.

But also maybe a point for the 12-year-old. I think most adults would have said it could never work.

If US special forces really seized and extracted Maduro for prosecution, that's going to be like one of the top 3 most spectacularly successful commando raids ever. Holy crap.

I still think Aorist Rods are one of the best allegories Douglas Adams ever invented.

And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

I thought I kept the same dental insurance this year, but my premium fell by 52 cents which is making me suspicious.

We gotta build a chip foundry, folks. It's the only way.

Maybe in the new year Bluesky can fix its video player so the audio doesn't desync when skipping and the volume slider behaves rationally.

@besttrousers.bsky.social I have now read (listened to) Why Nations Fail because of your mentions of it. I found it nicely clarifying of some intuitive beliefs I had. Thank you.

My sister gave me a dual-monitor mount for Christmas. Upon opening the box, it appears to be the most terrifyingly complex piece of machinery I have ever needed to assemble.

I don't like being away from my computer for this long. The telephone has come a long way these last decades, but it's just not enough.

Anyway the problem with a permanent vibescession caused at least in part by social media posturing is that while it might screw Trump in the short term it really screws the politics of generosity and solidarity in the long term. Believing times are bad makes people more selfish.
