In the icy fjords of Norway, Lotte S Dahlmo and team have tagged their first elusive deep-sea fish rarely seen near the surface: chimaeras!
Cold hands, dark nights, and frozen boats are paying off as the mystery of the ghost shark begins to unfold.

Breaking the ice: capturing and tagging the first chimaera monstrosa
Just outside the city centre of Bergen, the marine harbour of the Norwegian west coast, an elusive, mysterious deep-water species can be observed by scuba divers at around 20-30 meters depth. The ghos...

We've been out popping up acoustic release receivers for fine-scale positioning of thornback rays in our beautiful fjords. Several million detections to work with over the past year! Read more here: www.bergentelemetry.com/post/a-year-...

PhD candidate Jessica Robichaud at Cooke lab at @carleton.ca is visiting us for a month to help with field work. Today, she presented her work for our lab. She is using acoustic telemetry to track permit in the Florida keys! So interesting to see some of her findings! 🐟

Before summer, PhD students Saron Berhe & Erlend M Hanssen joined the 20th anniversary NoWPaS workshop in Halifax. Five days of talks, networking & exploring Halifax with early-career salmonid researchers from around the world. They also both presented their PhD projects🐟🦦 @nowpas.bsky.social

What a week it’s been! I’ve visited @lottepohl.bsky.social & David Casals at @vliz.be in Belgium for our #EMFish project. My first time seeing and tagging a Mustelus asterias - so cool! Thanks for a very fun day on the North Sea!

We've installed a PIT antenna in Nidelva to track returning Atlantic salmon smolts tagged last year through our #NFR_HITLice project. Smolts were infested with sea lice before release. Low discharge makes drilling the antenna to the riverbed easier, still a river with 3–4°C makes it quite tough!

Manuscripts drafted and written, revisions done, application sent in, and we even had a GAM crash course - safe to say we can call the third year of writing retreat a success! ❄️

On the third evening of our writing retreat, we all joined in on starting a new manuscript for the #NFR_LOST project 🦈 Within a few hours we’d sketched out a good first draft. Very motivating to work on the same manuscript simultaneously!

How much data would you need? We also have some Sonotronics OP data we can share if it’s needed?

You should! Although I had to look up what an IDE is (which didnt help - I’m still confused)
