In a functional government, this would be a five alarm fire where Congress calls in Kennedy and asks him what the fuck is going on

Four more top #CDC officials have submitted their resignation in the past few hours - Debra Houry (chief medical officer), Demere Daskalakis (director of NCIRD), Daniel Jernigan (director of NCEZID) + Jen Layden (director of OPHDST) www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

It is horrifying

Today brings an end to our Swansea University and @wiserd-research.bsky.social 4-Day Quantitative Methods Bootcamp! An incredibly comprehensive, non-stop event full of an absurd level of detail only Kevin Fahey could produce. I look forward to helping run more quants methods events in the future!

Especially with Reform now outflanking Labour on wealth redistribution. Mamdani's success against establishment Dems shows a passion for renewal and actual LEFTIST policy. A policy platform consisting of "wouldn't it be great if we just made people's lives better directly?". Have some goddamn spine.

This is Trump surrounded by idiotic yes-men. Full on Ratchet Effect reality. This NEEDS to enable the rise of more Mamdanis. A bold vision on the left that is ON THE LEFT. Labour had their chance and went after pensioners and the disabled. Who can be surprised Reform are polling well?

Can we not go back to normal and the next story? Can we stop for a second and acknowledge the US is a literal fascist state with no separation of powers and no due process? Habeas corpus about to die? ICE raids and the deportation of American citizens? Why is there any sanewashing of any of this?
louisbrom.bsky.social
What infuriates me the most is the pussyfooting around this bill. Yes, it's a budget bill, but the headlines need to be around the fact that Trump is effectively killing Americans with deprivations to rural hospitals, who rely on public funding, and the enormous transfer of wealth that this entails.

Laughing in front of cages designed to hold migrants and refugees, many of whom came to this country fleeing extreme violence and poverty, and hoping to raise their children in a more compassionate country. And many of whom followed all the legal procedures to enter the country.

Ohio Republicans pass bill allowing ICE to arrest anyone they "suspect" might be illegal immigrant—without a warrant.

Bill permits ICE to make arrests in public spaces—including courthouses & schools.

Also forbids local officials—including judges—from interfering in ICE enforcement efforts.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

WELKER: Your secretary of state says everyone who's here, citizens and non-citizens, deserve due process. Do you agree?

TRUMP: I don't know. I'm not a lawyer. I don't know.

WELKER: Don't you need to uphold the Constitution?

TRUMP: I don't know

The state of the newspapers this morning: a near-universal attack on trans people, most of it grossly exaggerating the implication of yesterday's ruling. Almost joyous in its spite.

Big thanks to the CPP and GCRD institutes within @swanseaunippir.bsky.social for having me as a part of the recent panel event discussing the Trump administration thus far. Musk, DOGE, Mahmoud Khalil and the rapidly authoritarian surge US democracy is having to withstand, and much more!
