Please share with anyone who cares about NSF support for graduate students and take 30 seconds to sign and leave a comment.

The deadline for the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program is about one month away and literally no one can apply. #NSFGRFP

It’s Fustilarian Friday again.

This week: NSF all but abolished in the President’s proposed budget.

Presidential budget is out. Here's NSF. Biggest cut, by amount, is $1 billion, or 66.8%, from MPS (Physics & Math directorate). nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/00-NSF...

Hmmm 45 million could fund a lot of research…..this seems like
the kind of
wasteful government spending that the DOGE bro’s should be cutting.

The costs of disinvestment in science: nondefense government R&D yields returns of 150% to 300% & accounts for roughly a QUARTER of American productivity growth since World War II. The authors conclude:“Our findings point to a misallocation of public capital & substantial underinvestment in R&D.”

Earlier today, ASBMB joined three other scientific societies in leading a substantial, 22-page amicus curiae brief in support of the plaintiffs in American Public Health Association v. NIH. This is a formal public submission to the court.

This is terrible news. Even the resignation letter posted on the NSF is censored. Compare to the whole letter he wrote published here. Knocking down all of the pillars that made American science great.

Gonna nerd: "This is not a moment, it's a movement." The article shows the widespread care & concern about our nation's public data. Much will be lost unless we preserve the data AND speak about its importance. This isn't an issue for academia. It is for all of us.
