No such alerts here, but I *have* brought in the garland hanging on the front door (mainly as the shadow of the ribbon slightly flapping on it was spooking the dog). So, we are pretty much storm-ready.

Ah yes but it took me 24 days of the slow but sure realisation that I… I don’t like jam. In the morning, at least. On an occasional scone in the afternoon, sure, but how often does that happen? I now have approx 20 small pots of jam / conserve / spread sitting in the cupboard. So there’s that.

Just been watching a documentary about this; I was similarly perplexed. Turns out houses made of brick don’t do well in heavily earthquake-prone areas. Wooden frame flexes, so is therefore the most common in Southern California. An insurance nightmare, I imagine.

Ours had a “catastrophic event” before Christmas and had to be fully replaced. We only moved in a year ago; the previous owners would be delighted if they knew they’d dodged that very costly bullet. Wishing your boiler many more years of good health and service.
