This is an exciting moment for the association, as we continue to grow (with membership numbers higher than ever) and look ahead to developing more international networks. The work of our community is vital in these times of renewed global oppression and marginalisation against queer and trans people, and as misogynistic discourse continues to thrive. We are currently soliciting nominations for the following 2-year-term Executive Committee positions: (1) President-Elect: This officeholder assumes the duties of the President in the event the President cannot serve, and shall succeed to the office of President at the expiration of the term as President-elect. The President shall be the presiding officer of the Association, and shall succeed to the office of Past President at the expiration of the term as President. Normally a President's term will run for two years, i.e. from one biennial IGALA Conference to the next. (2) Secretary: This officeholder shall maintain records of meetings and decisions, call and run elections, and post minutes of public meetings and results of elections to the Membership at large. The Secretary shall also maintain the membership list, in consultation with the Journal editors. (3) Communications Officer: This officer manages the mailing lists, the website, our social media properties, advises the Board about communications strategy, and ensures consistency of voice in IGALA communications. (4) Treasurer: The Treasurer has charge of the financial records of the Society. They shall submit a financial/budget report once a year, at the IGALA Executive e-meeting, and shall submit a report on the Association's activities and finances to the membership at the open Association business meeting held at each official IGALA conference. "Foreign-born UK residents are much more likely to be of working age than the UK-born — and thus less of a fiscal burden. They tend to be healthier than the UK-born, and are much more likely to have a university degree. 75% have lived in the UK for more than 5 years and 90% speak good English."

A professor at Texas A&M taught… something related to gender that offended a student, who secretly filmed herself objecting. That video is picked up by TX legislators, who demand her firing, and now the dean and dept head have been fired.

👇🎯 Quite literally, the published course descriptions at most universities are <decades> old & incredibly generic because the course has been taught by dozens of different professors over many years & stop it, this is not serious behavior from Texas A&M leaders & we don't need to pretend that it is.

Again, at worst, the appropriate response to course content not aligning with course descriptions at any university is to lodge a complaint with the relevant curriculum committees and get them to change the course descriptions, rather than to fire a professor, her boss, & her boss' boss.

If I've understood this correctly, an academic at a Texas university & two of her managers have been fired because course content deviated from what was advertised. Just for a second, take a step back, and remember that these are the actions of a 56 year old man towards a 17 year old girl.
He and Brooks met at a Battle of Ideas conference on 19 October when the scriptwriter “approached her with his phone, recording her and calling her a groomer, and asking how many she had groomed”, the prosecution said. Brooks subsequently called out to Linehan outside the venue and asked him why he had called her a “domestic terrorist”. Julia Faure Walker, for the prosecution, said: “At this point Mr Linehan could’ve explained why he had called her a domestic terrorist, if indeed he had an explanation, or even ignored her … rather he responded in a way which is indicative of his extreme personal animosity towards her. “He said ‘go away groomer’, ‘go away you disgusting incel’. He called her a ‘sissy porn-watching scumbag’… He deliberately whacked the phone out of Ms Brooks’s hand.”
