misersdream notes and interpretations on rika ponytail curves like a chili pepper, her namesake. possibly why she has red eyes and green hair brown tie tip is like a slope of earth shirt buttons in the traditional men's way of left over right (women's shirts are traditionally right over left) habit of tapping her feet. more connection to the earth!!! huge freakin feet (DONT BE WEIRD) she has shoes that are a prominent part of her design in both size and coloration to represent her connection to the earth as a ground type trainer. her pant legs dont go past the ankle to further draw attention to her shoes triangle in her design is a simplified form of a mountain, common symbol for ground type long sideburns that nearly go past her earlobe tiniest hint of a hook nose eyelash that cuts into the white of her eye tuft of hair that goes over the ear im nuts for this side eye rika's mouth has a very slight asymmetrical slant lil asymmetrical pout even with a surprised expression rika's iris still fills the eye from top to bottom it's only when shes exasperated when we can see any eyewhite below her iris lol as a whole, rika's outfit is a combination of formal (tucked button-up shirt, black slacks, suspenders, tie) and casual (shirt not buttoned all the way, rolled up sleeves, piercings) which reflects her two sides: her professional side and her casual side. notice that in most of this official art she's not smiling when in the game she is a friendly smiley person, especially in the dlc. this is intentional based on rika and geeta's club conversation. rika normally keeps a cool expression but she's been more smiley since meeting the player character so we naturally see her smiling more than she normally would :^) a serious expression even here when bantering with poppy!! shes great at staying professional when needed In the original Japanese, Rika (Chiri/Chili) refers to her self in third person, calling herself "Chiri-chan" which is a cutesy title. She speaks in the Kansai dialect. In the Pokemon world, this dialect is usually attributed to the Johto region. Whitney (Johto gym leader) and Valerie (originally from Johto) both have dialects associated with the Kansai region as well. Compare this to her English localization. She calls herself "good ol' Rika" and has a casual speaking pattern that I can only describe as "talks like a dad who occasionally uses current slang." Due to this localization, it's interesting that Rika's English diction comes off as more masculine while her original Japanese comes off as more feminine. During the interview, Rika drops her Kansai dialect and speaks in formal Japanese.
