The Bill Belichick Era has already far exceeded the comic potential I thought it contained, and my level of expectation was “a beautiful disaster, like a monkey flying a 737.” It’s glorious. All we need now is something like a BB&JH Men’s Health cover reveal and it’ll be a perfect day.

This will end up OK for UNC, though, because as bad as UNC boosters and NC politicians are at hiring football coaches, some of them have a lot of experience navigating messy, expensive divorces.

I STAND CORRECTED

The great @d1scourse.bsky.social reports that John Thompson — yes, ECU’s John Thompson — had matching GoDaddy.com Bowl wins as interim HC in 2012 and 2013 at Arkansas State.

That’s one fewer victory than he had in two seasons at East Carolina (3-20).

I was never so certain of anything in my sporting life that Doeren was going to paddle Belichick worse than Dabo did.

And I threatened to throw a shoe at Manny Diaz’s presser if he got to 41-0 and didn’t stop there and take a photo.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Update after Clemson loss: Through five games, Bill Belichick’s UNC team is the worst in Chapel Hill in 35 years and the second-worst in school history.

1989 was Mack Brown’s first first season, which ended with Spurrier taking the infamous scoreboard photo after a 41-0 win.
