At least the President of the United States is polling really well!

This being announced exactly one day after the internet is entirely united in proclaiming EK's recent CBS interview was a disaster that backfired horrifically in generating empathy while right wing grifters pick at each others' bones. Interesting strategy!

Partnerships and brands take a long time to get together. There's so much legal bullshit, so much internal bandying. I wouldn't be shocked if this happened before CK's death and they're just now getting it out. It's like the Titanic sending a call over the intercom system while underwater.

The one time he shows up to her is to explain his feelings without denying them, while also telling her he plans to respect the boundaries of their friendship. It's weirdly one of the emotionally healthier subplots of the movie and yet it's known for being the worst.

I believe that editing choice (in the film, not the tape) is the shorthand I'm specifying. I also don't think having unrequited love for someone is weird? He's living in heartbreak and struggles with it. The popular theory is he is some horrible man who can't leave her alone, which is the opposite.

We don't know: the aliens' specific motivations beyond harvest, religious beliefs, specific tech, origins, etc., and that's because of the film's chosen perspective. Viewers can attempt to apply logic as they like, but it isn't a conclusive answer and cannot be criticized as such.
December 6, 2025 at 11:11 PM
Have never been able to accept that criticism because it isn't dealing with the text and theme of the movie. If the protagonists were knowledgable about the aliens of the film, sure. But they aren't. Anything gleaned outside of that is what viewers bring to the film - not the movie's responsibility.

If he avoided her, how is he stalking her? That's the opposite of stalking. We did not see the full extent of the tape - just a brief snippet. I feel like you are making broad assumptions based on what feels like obvious narrative shorthand.

There are so, so many tales of human conquest that begin with unprepared exploration that caused the death of the explorers - who were the most technologically advanced they'd ever been. Why should this species be different?
December 6, 2025 at 7:51 PM
We do not know the level to which this species was prepared for the harvest because we do not follow characters who engage with that info. This is simply a narrative tool being used; not some great lack of reason or thought. The aliens act much like human beings.

The reason why he brought the camera was to film the surprise he had set up for both of them (the band in the crowd), and he accidentally ended up filming more of her after - something he did unconsciously. He's clearly embarrassed by it which is why he avoids her constantly.

And to be fair, we don't harvest lava and the like because we're on earth. The idea is the aliens are taking us off-planet! Complex, portable, water-based organisms that are the dominant species seem very much like an appropriate target for a hostile alien race!
