lumet lover. cheers lover. writer, filmmaker, and photographer.
My heart's honestly been too broken to be going out and shooting lately, but I did take this on the bus yesterday. Public transport is wonderful.

what would be the funniest way to find out It happened

Something that's true every single time:

The people who have to sell you on AI are the ones who have already spent billions of dollars on it and need to unload their stock.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

the wild thing about rob reiner wasn't just that his run of movies were so stupendous, it was that they were so versatile. a fantasy, a coming-of-age, a mockumentary, a rom-com, a psychological thriller, and a courtroom drama - and all of them ranked among the best the genres have to offer

really hoping that rob reiner news isn't true. how horrible

The thing that's important about every major player in the corporate world is that they are always about a year behind the temperature of culture, while telling themselves they are six years ahead. They are fundamentally reactionaries convinced they are prophets.
Another first with the Meta sponsor just added to the Turning Point USA mega conference

am i crazy or wasn't there a brief news story where steve bannon had, like, barrels of acid or something found on his property?
Steve Bannon being friends with Jeffrey Epstein after spending years doing his whole populist, “down with the elites” bullshit is so funny.

These entire movement is just criminals, liars, and sex offenders.

All of this makes sense when you realize all of AI is trained exclusively on David Wain bits
An absolute horrific nightmare of two AI bots caught in a loop with each other is the perfect example of the total nothingness of AI “brains”.

43 years ago today, Sidney Lumet & David Mamet delivered the ultimate courtroom drama masterclass, THE VERDICT (1982), starring Paul Newman.

Celebrate its anniversary and dive deep into its brilliance:

The directing efforts of solo Coens, Wachowskis, and Safdies makes me wonder how many "quite good" filmmakers would be completely amazing if they had directing partners.
Ok so after watching THE SMASHING MACHINE and MARTY SUPREME in very close proximity I think it's worth asking how much of the Safdies' special sauce is just Ronald Bronstein

i honestly don't really know how tarantino survived the whole "i almost got uma thurman killed in a stunt she didn't want to do" thing once that got out

popular movie takes that annoy the hell out of me

1. that people call andrew lincoln's character in love actually a "stalker" when he literally spends the entire movie trying to stay away from kiera knightley until the very end (specifically because she discovered his true feelings)

the sheer amount of times lumet hired blacklisted or imprisoned artists to work on his material really proves he was About That Life on the regular. he did the same for his CBS work and on Fail Safe
Incredible interview with Sidney Lumet included in this write-up that left me howling

Will never ever ever understand how right-wing figures get book deals when their base DOES! NOT! READ!
The news media discovering yet again that all the public figures they think are important and reward with endless coverage don't mean a hill of beans to most people in the world. And if they do know about people like Nuzzi, they think they're a complete joke.
Does scandal sell? Not for Olivia Nuzzi’s book so far | CNN
“We ordered a lot and so far, people have not been beating down the door,” said one bookseller.

Albert Finney
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

My take on the Optic/Haptic vid is: It tries to develop a unifying theory on a broad thesis with a shaky premise (“Why don’t movies look realistic anymore?”) and inevitably winds up with a mess of cherry-picking, self-contradictions, specious reasoning, along with a lot of individually good points.

I'll never get over how much this guy reminds me of Barry Bostwick's mayor character in SPIN CITY, if the Mayor were absolutely heinous and evil and not a lovable goofball.
Bessent: "I'm very optimistic about the first, second, and accelerating into the third quarter in terms of growth."

This applies across almost every art form, medium, and genre IMO. The more you learn about art, the more capable you become of enjoying it more than ever.

People don’t understand that this already is happening to them and that they actually had much longer on-ramps to their media than they realize.
This post's really funny but I think if we're being real the awesome part of gamedev is that it didn't kill my fun, it just made everything more extreme. Bad design is like nails on a chalkboard while great smart design is BLISS
