That or games were made as is and there was no way of knowing if it got better. Remember Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde the video game? Kids back then called it a difficulty curve or a bad game. Today we call it bad design that should've been updated.
I think complaining about day 1 patches or having to update games is probably the most ignorant take for gamers.
Like the idea games were shipped when they were ready and more polished back in day is the weirdest propaganda that gamers started.
