Interested in science, especially physics, evolutionary biology, psychology. Hunting fungi mostly not to eat them, a bit of an amateur mycologist. Chess noob. From Czechia.
A fungus I found today on moss covered willow. Czechia, Šumperk District. Any idea for identification? Note that we have some snow and had freezing nights/mornings.

Last year I found Serpula himantioides going from pinkish crust to meruloid fruiting body. I was a bit proud of myself for recognizing it without seeing the meruloid part (I found it immature for a fungi exhibition in 2022, got it identified by an expert and it stuck.)

I made this as a cover pic for my fb group using pics of my more interesting finds from this year but I thought I might share it here as well. Can you identify the species displayed? Have you found them?

However, a few decades ago Phyllotopsis nidulans used to be considered rare in Czechia (even proposed for legal protection I've heard). It got locally redlisted as NT in 2006 (it had been getting more common by that time). Perhaps it's sensitive to sulphur emissions?

Currently Phyllotopsis nidulans is common in Czechia. Trying to avoid it during winter fungi walks is like trying to avoid getting "Whammed" listening to the radio during Advent. It grows basically on anything (especially birch, willow and spruce in my experience).

Phyllotopsis nidulans, a typical late autumn and winter sp. here in Czechia. Pic from July which is not typical here (I have yet to find it in August). I want to ask you - do you know about a significant decline of this species at any time in your country/region?

What is that? Are you trying to show us the data or not? And who uses 3D graphs for stuff like that?

Now we can speculate whether this is a same species.

1) You might think it is easy to re-find these vividly colored ones. Think twice. 2) I found these during an excursion, wanted to notify others, spent 20 mins re-finding. 3) Forget it, you won't re-find that. 4) I was crawling on my knees trying to re-find these.

Dnešní nález (do druhu neurčená voskovka). Voskovky bohužel asi brzy utne mráz, ale vyrazit na houby jde po celý rok.

Cuphophyllus russocoriaceus (Cedarwood waxcap) smelling strongly of cedar. Locally redlisted in Czechia as EN (although probably not that rare on endangered, still one of the "better" waxcaps here). 2nd locality for me.

Not sure what's that (there is one thing that came to my mind that is not known from Czechia and I also got a tip from a pro mycologist who was interested in getting a specimen) but I love the color.

I remember and invitation to a fungi walk with expected distance and time noting that 1 km/h is Fast & Furious for mycologists. (Not using exactly these words.)

Here some "mainstream" Hygrocybe conica s. l. in a good waxcap season (2023). Plus a forest H. conica s. l., I have never seen an other waxcap that conica group in a forest (although it is mentioned for some), conica group three times. I'm wondering if those from forest are different.
November 14, 2025 at 6:00 PM
These might be Hygrocybe conicopalustris, possibly one of those disctinct species (but I haven't found whether it's proven to be a separate species and if there isn't more) characterised by small size and ecology (wet grasslands / bogs).

From Mycological Memes on fb:
(OP: Does this happen only in Italy?)
Rule 1: Anything looking barely like R. satanas is Satanas (capital S mandatory). Rule 2: Tylopilus felleus (not looking at all like R. sanatas) is Satanas. Rule 3 (optional): R. satanas is S. luridus or something.

I keep getting only these:
November 10, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Rugosomyces chrysenteron (cont.)
It might qualify but it might be also one of the rare but not that threatened species.
I know it from one locality, seen it just once, edge of mostly broadleaved forest (Fagus, Carpinus, Pinus, Quercus, Betulus, Corylus)

Rugosomyces chrysenteron (Calocybe chrysenteron)
IUCN unpubl., under assessment, Czechia: VU
Saprotroph on litter in broadleaved/mixed/coniferous forests
Threats: Unclear, needs more info.
Widespread but probably rare everywhere.

Hydropus atramentosus (cont.)
I know it from a single log from a prev. descr. locality, observing it 2021, 2023-2025: bsky.app/profile/lunr...
more inter. finds: Arrhenia epichysium, Hohenbuehelia auriscalpium, Agrocybe firma, Dentipellis fragilis, Mycoacia nothofagi
