I've been working for a long time now on Shatterkin, a FitD game of kids with evolving monster pets (kind of a Digimon meets Stranger Things).

I'm taking my definitions of de/humanizing from Virtuous Violence by Alan Page Fiske and Tage Shakti Rai, which they admit are not consistent with common academic definitions. but they make sense

violence can be dehumanizing or humanizing. minions are often dehumanized when used as barriers or XP gain but violence at key villains often requires seeing them as capable of thinking, feeling and, most importantly, suffering. getting people to reject "humanizing" violence is just as tough

when your "show" is "don't worry; the bad guys always die in the end" it makes any sort of noble "tell" ring hollow

zoomers will never be as senselessly and horrifically mean as a lot of millenials were in the late 00's to the mid 2010's
