There’s a variation of this going around again, and if your web browser feels slow, it’s NOT because Firefox is scraping everything you view or constantly generating AI slop in the background. That’s not what it’s doing, that’s not what the list of flags controls.
So there's a post going around about "AI settings in Firefox" and how you've got to make changes in about:config (FF's version of a registry edit) to prevent AI from stealing your data and also speed up your browsing, and they've limited replies and quotes... but it's almost entirely misinformation.

If knowing these things you still believe the best course of action is to switch to some obscure new browser (that's almost certainly running either Firefox or Chrome's engine under the hood) where the opt-in for AI is fully deleted, that's your call... but you should be making an informed call.

So they don't tell you what these settings actually DO.
They control three things:
1. The ability to connect to a chatbot to ask for page summaries. No chatbot is connected by default.
2. Smart tab grouping, which runs locally but uses an ML algorithm
3. The 'Search with Google Lens' option

New Pleasure Unit! Although this one is technically mostly a cleaning unit...
It was the funniest to design! I'm usually not a maid guy but thinking of pleasing shapes for a maid bot was really interesting to do.
