Pastor, parent, partner living that homestead-ish life and talking about random life things, churchy stuff, lefty politics, organic-ish gardening, chicken ranchin’, books, nerdy animated fandoms, music, and whisky. He/him
New instrument! Having lots of fun, already figured out how to play a semi-decent version of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”

I had the coolest experience earlier while watering the garden. This little fella came and was flying in and out of the water stream repeatedly, then landed on the fence and hung out for a few minutes before flying away.

Orioles are back! Two of them were hanging out in one of our apple trees yesterday morning…gives me joy, and God knows I need a source of it these days.

Cobbler, anyone?

This is the somewhat messy post-tucking-in pic, but this breakfast is sending me places. Tangelo, beet, goat cheese, pistachio with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

It’s garden season! One of the first major projects of the early-mid spring is done - planting hardy kiwi vines, plus some rhubarb as a companion. There will likely be some strawberries planted in there, as well.

It’s nice enough to be spending evenings on the deck again, so tonight’s the first of my warm weather season’s Sunday Night Opera series. Tonight, it’s Delibes’ “Lakmé” featuring Natalie Dessay in the title role. Add in a generous pour of Lagavulin DE and it’s a perfect spring evening.

I started substitute teaching this year. I was filling in for the Ag teacher today (welcome to country life), and one of the 9th graders saw me as she was coming into class and loudly went “YES! Mr. Tenzin’s here!” Made me feel like I’m doing something right and actually connecting w/the students.

I’ve seen rain, hail, sleet, and snow today, so it’s soup for supper tonight. Rainbow Plant Life’s Lemony Chickpea Soup (with a few tweaks) for the win!

Also, they’re not pets per se, but here’s many of our 31 free ranging chickens (28 hens and 3 roosters)

Currently reading The Nutmeg’s Curse and just finished Otherlands; both excellent reads!

Played this with the Airbender kids this evening and we had a blast! Fun, easy to play, and highly relatable in our home.

I had a birthday and got to celebrate it with my wife and kids, who worked together to make a fabulous red velvet cake - my favorite!

May you all be blessed with a partner in life who’ll make your favorite cake AND homemade ice cream for your birthday (or whatever your preferred festive treats might be)!

…bracing. Also weird when it’s time to start getting the basement seed-starting lab set up.

Katara is a pretty kitty!

Armani reminds me of our Aang both in terms of looks and attitude

My wife sent me this and, honestly, I’m not sure why Suki and Aang needed to make a right angle. Katara wanted none of it and did not become the hypotenuse, however.

The chickens literally followed me to the mailbox and back because they wanted treats. Yes, I gave them treats.
