Pastor, parent, partner living that homestead-ish life and talking about random life things, churchy stuff, lefty politics, organic-ish gardening, chicken ranchin’, books, nerdy animated fandoms, music, and whisky. He/him
New instrument! Having lots of fun, already figured out how to play a semi-decent version of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”

OMG Liz Truss has a WaPo op-ed about how “the elites killed (her) pro-growth agenda” and Trump can’t let “them” stop him, too.

I don’t even know where to start with this, but this is a good beginning:
a man with a headband on his head is smiling and says now comes the part
Alt: A scene from George of the Jungle in which a character says “Now comes the part where we throw our heads back in laughter. Ready?” to his coworkers, who respond “Ready!” before they all fall out laughing.

I had the coolest experience earlier while watering the garden. This little fella came and was flying in and out of the water stream repeatedly, then landed on the fence and hung out for a few minutes before flying away.

Today is the day we unfollow and mute folks who are turning my feed into a constant stream of arguing and negativity…even people I agree with 90%+ of the time. My mind’s garden grows enough weeds on its own; I don’t need more bad seed sown into it.

Heard the first whippoorwill of the year! Beautiful late spring evening here in the Driftless.

Orioles are back! Two of them were hanging out in one of our apple trees yesterday morning…gives me joy, and God knows I need a source of it these days.

Absolutely STUNNING - powerful, deeply moving, and absolutely gripping…nearly impossible to put down in the second half.

This is the somewhat messy post-tucking-in pic, but this breakfast is sending me places. Tangelo, beet, goat cheese, pistachio with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

One of the cool parts of being 40 is the complete and utter lack of fucks I give about what others think of me and my opinions. Don’t like me/them? Cool, move along, then.

It’s garden season! One of the first major projects of the early-mid spring is done - planting hardy kiwi vines, plus some rhubarb as a companion. There will likely be some strawberries planted in there, as well.

It’s nice enough to be spending evenings on the deck again, so tonight’s the first of my warm weather season’s Sunday Night Opera series. Tonight, it’s Delibes’ “Lakmé” featuring Natalie Dessay in the title role. Add in a generous pour of Lagavulin DE and it’s a perfect spring evening.

The basic formula for peasant meals is grain + legume + flavor/micronutrients. Beans and rice plus whatever produce tastes good sautéed in butter or olive oil and chucked on top of a serving and voilà.
Dear people who may soon suffer food insecurity

Listen up, it super fucking sucks and will do lasting psych damage the rest of your life. This is not a joke or exaggeration. What you have on hand will forever after be a source of anxiety.

SO. To help you in the coming days here's some tips

Hey @baldwin.senate.gov, you’re up when Cory’s done. Let’s start shutting this nightmare down.

Dear Guess Who,

I’m offended that you have no time left for me. I was even willing to share the land with you, but now I’m stuck with no sugar tonight in my coffee OR tea. Granted, that may be because of the tariffs, and please rest assured I don’t want this war machine, either.
Dear AC/DC,
I've decided I do indeed have the guts, and I'll do my own dirty deeds.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely yours,
😎
Dear Captain and Tenille,

As much as I’ve enjoyed this, I simply am unable to do that to you one more time.

I’ve seen rain, hail, sleet, and snow today, so it’s soup for supper tonight. Rainbow Plant Life’s Lemony Chickpea Soup (with a few tweaks) for the win!

Never let any of them live a day in peace for the rest of their lives.
When DOGE cuts aviation safety and planes crash, when Medicaid is demolished and your community hospital closes, when trans care is banned through pulling funding, when Musk subverts democracy…

These dems own it.

Schumer
Fetterman
Cortez Masto
Durbin
King
Shaheen
Gillibrand
Schatz

Regardless of how the actual cloture vote goes, Schumer needs to be out of his job as Minority Leader asap. He’s not the right person for the job right now, plain and simple, and he’s blown whatever credibility he had with the party’s base.
March 14, 2025 at 3:43 PM
Hey @baldwin.senate.gov this applies to you, too. If Schumer lacks the integrity and courage to do the right thing, either you fire him or we fire you. Simple as that.
@schiff.senate.gov @padilla.senate.gov If Schumer votes for cloture and you do not immediately call for his resignation for betraying the ideals of the Democratic Party, I will not ever vote for either of you again, and will use every avenue in my power to make sure you are not re-elected.

As a pastor, if you are a Christian in the US and you feel persecuted, looked down on, or ridiculed: 1. You wouldn’t know real persecution if it bit you on the nose, and 2. You probably deserve even more opprobrium for being a hateful, fascist bigot. Repent and try actually following Jesus.

Over and over again I learn that by not teaching the actual history of the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement nationwide, we are failing as a people.
