Many things shocked John and I as we were finishing Stars That Pause: 2,000 Years of UFO Encounters & Lore, but the sheer number of classical accounts that match up to anonymous experiences today is wild!

Excerpt from an ancient Chinese UFO account

One of my favourite China books! I ought to give it a reread myself one day. Pity we lost Bernstein back in March.

I ought to get around to reading Phil's book as well!!

hope you are feeling a lot better now!!

Gosh, amazing that even in the middle of all that suffering they could still look about themselves and marvel at the beauty of nature

seriously humbling

Gosh, Chez, what a cover!!! I thought I wouldn't like it being just one colour but the more you look at it the more you're drawn in.....

It's fish tank cleaning day and the fish wanted some earlyish Pink Floyd, so Obscured by Clouds (1972). This one's a bit of a forgotten album but the fish & I love it & I can always hear echoes (see what I did there) of the famous album to come the very next year(Dark Side of the Moon) 🎵🎶🎵

So many biographies of 20thC famous Americans I've read seem to begin on farms and poor smallholdings. It always surprises me how the pioneering frontier days were actual lived experiences for so many - so different to European bios 😂

wow! I prefer that cover!! Lots going there!

despite the natural elegance of his writing. Later editions include the historical corrections but academics still point out little issues with the novel every now and then. And yet, has anyone captured Lincoln any better? Some reviewers mistake the novel for an actual biography!! What a book! 2/2

#histbookchat #BookSky 📚💜 Not reading anything new today but thought I would post one of my favourite historical novels: Lincoln by Gore Vidal (1984) - this is a first edition which contains a few errors. Gore Vidal always told people he wrote slowly & carefully but the opposite was true, 1/2
