Today I started my professional enrichment at Holly Grove SEND school in Burnley to understand more about SEND and what I could possibly introduce into my future classroom.
What an incredible experience so far!
I was absolutely flawed by the dedication and care of the staff.

A lovely stop off in Knaresborough today as I made my way back over the Pennines to spend two days in a primary school and three days in a SEND school.
(Plus a delicious lunch)

Today @york.ac.uk we had a fantastic seminar by @uclholocaust.bsky.social
I took away some wonderful ideas for resources and lots of extra knowledge to take into the classroom come September!
Particularly fascinating was the story about Chaim Rumkowski

And that’s a wrap on placement as a trainee history teacher!

I’ve been so incredibly lucky with two fantastic schools and departments.
Next step: Move back to Lancashire and begin my journey as an ECT 👩‍🏫

Happy #caturday 🐱

In 7500BC a human was buried in Cyprus.
Buried in a grave next to them was an 8 month old kitten.

Cats aren’t native to Cyprus, telling us that cats were being domesticated as people settled in the Fertile Crescent!

I have no images so here is my cat!

Happy Caturday! 🐱

In 1979 Smudge was employed by the People’s Palace museum as ‘Chief Rodent Operative ‘ 🐭
Smudge even held a General, Municipal, and Boilermakers’ (GMB) union membership!

She was also named Glasgow’s ‘Kitty of Culture’ in 1990

Clitheroe castle- a motte and bailey castle founded by Roger de Poitou in the 11th century.
If you’re ever in the Ribble Valley I highly recommend visiting the castle museum!
(There’s also some great bakeries nearby) 😋

Whilst raiding my grandparents home, we discovered Maud Couper- my great, great aunt!

Supposedly Maud was one of the first voices of the speaking clock. I’m not sure how true that is but if anyone has any relevant information or could point me in a direction for research, that would be great! 😄

We had a fantastic talk by @historyrichk.bsky.social today at the UOY!

I asked about the possibility of oral exams in history to aid with accessibility.
As a trainee I’m still getting to grips with assessments so it would be great to hear people’s opinions on making exams more accessible! 😄

Roman history was absolutely destroyed for me during my time at school (It’s all we did for about 4 years).
I’ve definitely fallen back in love with it as an adult ❤️
This is pretty interesting so I thought I’d share! ⬇️

The discovery has been described as one of the most important pieces of Roman history in the City of London.

What’s the point in refusing citizenship to refugees who have ‘made a dangerous journey’?

What’s the point in publishing footage of people being deported?

I’m sorry to say that this is simply a continuation of the performative cruelty we saw from the Conservatives.

It’s been a very busy weekend so I missed caturday, whoops!
Happy… catunday??

Anyway, did you know cats were a sacred animal to the Vikings? The goddess Freyja, according to mythology, would bless those who were kind to them 🐱🌸

Has your eel been out of the water for too long? Is it DEAD? It's ok. We can fix that.

Albertus Magnus (d. 1280) wrote that, to solve this, you put the eel in a mix of strong vinegar & vulture blood & then cover that with a pile of dung.

And your eel will spring back to life!

Meme. Painting of Albertus Magnus. He is sitting at a desk, resting his left elbow on a book. His right hand is resting on the other page, and he's making a fist with his right hand. He is wearing a brown cloak and a glorious bishops' miter. Behind him is a red tapestry on the wall, and a shelf. His face is lined with cares or age, or possibly hard living. He's great, and he knows it.

His eyes are penetrating, and he looks skeptical. Imagine that he is testing you on the contents of the book, and you are having to rely on what you remember from a 2:00 am cramming session. His hand likely began extended, but he's been closing it in a fist for the last 4 minutes while you fumble your answers. You're going to fail. You know it. And so does Albertus. It's now just a question of how deep the hole will be.

This is like a pre-comps nightmare, come to life. Why did you even put him on your committee?

Meme text reads:
"What? You don't
have vulture blood?"
