Flock Safety can try to deny that its ALPR network was used by a Texas sheriff to investigate a woman who had an abortion, but newly obtained records show that it was, in fact, a "death investigation" of a non-viable fetus.

Deputies even considered charging her for it.

Flock Safety and Texas Sheriff Claimed License Plate Search Was for a Missing Person. It Was an Abortion Investigation.
New documents and court records obtained by EFF show that Texas deputies queried Flock Safety's surveillance data in an abortion investigation, contradicting the narrative promoted by the company and ...

Another really well put together video discussing the scale and dangers of Flock's dystopian, mass surveillance network.

Contains interviews with Will Freeman, the creator of deflock.me 🤜🤛, and EFF's @maassive.bsky.social.

“The El Cajon Police Department is one of the holdouts, violating state law and recklessly putting Californians at risk by sharing data with many out-of-state agencies, including those in states with abortion bans," EFF’s @Maassive.bsky.social told CBS 8.

“It’s like seeing the eye of Sauron hanging over your city,” EFF’s @maassive.bsky.social told @texasobserver.org of the Torre Centinela surveillance nexus rising over Ciudad Juárez. Will it gather information in violation of US laws and share it with US law enforcement?
Just Beyond the Texas Border, Chihuahua Is Launching a Burgeoning State Surveillance System
The 20-story Torre Centinela looming over Juárez is part of a much larger AI-powered network that won’t stop at the U.S.-Mexico divide.

EVANSTON DEFLOCKS: City just issued a news release announcing that all 19 license plate cameras have been deactivated, and the contract will be fully terminated effective Sept. 26. Story TK.
Evanston Deactivates Flock Cameras and Terminates Contract

On August 26, the City of Evanston and the Evanston Police Department deactivated all 19 Flock Safety ALPR cameras. The City is no longer collecting or providing license plate reader data to the Flock network.

The findings of the Illinois Secretary of State’s audit, combined with Flock’s admission that it failed to establish distinct permissions and protocols to ensure local compliance while running a pilot program with federal users, are deeply troubling. As a result, the City has deactivated the cameras and issued a termination notice to Flock, effective September 26, 2025.

During this interim period until September 26, data collected by other agencies and shared on the Flock network will remain available for Evanston’s investigations into reported crimes. However, Evanston will not collect or share any data itself.

Remember Robocop? "The entire concept of policing is now just Axon machinery with a little bit of police officer flesh in there,” EFF’s @maassive.bsky.social told @westword.com: cameras, TASERs, automated license plate readers, drones, report-writing AI, and more.
RoboCop on Patrol: Metro Law Enforcement Adopting AI Police Report Technology
"The AI generates something that it thinks it wants you to have. In a police report, that may be more likely to be inculpating than exculpating."
