A really old trick conservatives use is to accuse liberals of supporting an idea that would make sense under liberal values but that liberals don't actually support for tactical reasons. So you face a choice of either accepting the false accusation or you argue against your own values.

My worry with CBS is the same as my worry about WaPo and similar situations: that basically the bad guys win either way. Either they pervert a powerful, far-reaching platform into a dispenser of right-wing propaganda, or they run a valuable source of generally accurate information into the ground.
