CAKE’s music makes me feel like the people in the comic where the guy goes “do we have any crackers” and the girl goes “no we crack-a-lackin’” and they’re both wearing sunglasses at the end. Like I look at them and hear the guitar riff to Wheels. My fondest thank-yous to CAKE.

My day went from “okay” to “great” after telling my husband that Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” (you know, the sad dog song?) is actually about heroin addiction. Fundamentally changing someone’s worldview on something so small gives me such a rush.

So I’m learning Japanese.

I’m fairly up on my German, so learning a totally different system of grammar and characters is blowing my mind a little. Is the ‘ka’ hiragana at the end of a question the only indicator, or is rising intonation acceptable in Japanese?
