And before someone’s like “ohhhhh it’s a GOTHIC HORROR it’s meant to grapple with dark and negative themes” sure, but it’s not grappling with racism, it just IS racist. It’s not depicting racism, it is depicting a minoritized ethnic group negatively and inaccurately, which is racist

It’s a damn good film. the changes they made were PHENOMENAL and made for a well-rounded, horrifying flick, so it’s bizarre to me that anyone making a movie that takes liberties with the source material keeps the racism voluntarily
