I have a theory that I have a… curse? where all things are equally scary to me. It’s a low level of fear, which is fantastic when it comes to legitimately crazy stuff because I’m just not that bothered. However, the flipside is that stuff like “texts” are as scary to me as being hunted for sport

My argument is not that Chinese citizens are free from authoritarian surveillance and control, my argument is that US citizens are subject to tremendously more authoritarian surveillance and control than many of you are comfortable acknowledging and just got used to it

Working out a scenario where Pornhub has to launch a prestigious monthly print magazine in order to stay online in Tennessee. This is how we bring the business back: ransoming access to stepsister-stuck-in-washing-machine content with long-form literary criticism and Malcolm Harris book excerpts.

I'm reading news of an imminent ceasefire deal. I'm praying that the violence truly stops, that we don't see drawn-out death by another name. I pray that we all stay alert and awake regardless of what comes next.

None of us are free until Palestine is free and a ceasefire is not freedom.

biden could have brought about a ceasefire, stopping the massacre of palestinians and seeing hostages released on both sides, at any point in the past year. he didn't because he didn't want to, and it's only happening now because he's leaving

I hope that the ceasefire deal truly means an end to the vicious, murderous bombardment of Palestine and I also know that there are not enough ceasefire deals to cover the dead.

The United States supplied the weapons and Israel used them.

Never forget.

Free Palestine!!!

very few things bring me more joy than when i trot out a new erotica book and someone comments 'i just finished camp damascus and started following the author what the heck is happening'

So, fun fact about California, our fire departments are wildly underfunded and inmate firefighter make up the difference.

LAFD gets about 1/3 of the budget that LAPD gets and they have to fundraise for equipment like respirators and ice machines in fire stations. supportlafd.org

craziest part of Babygirl was when (spoilers) she confesses to her husband that he’s never made her cum, to which the dude next to us incredulously laughed at, and said “what? that’s so normal”

“hole in the ozone layer” levels of erasure. my mom was a project manager who busted her ass for years to make sure IBM was ready for Y2K and completely succeeded, only for it to get turned into a late night joke. funny how the stories of mass collective action to avoid disaster rarely get told
DAMMIT NPR.

I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded.

Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

People feared the computer glitch would mean "the end of the world as we know it." Thankfully, Y2K didn't live up to the hype after years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation.

actually I’m not done thinking about Nosferatu. obviously Dracula is basically just a clown car filled with orientalism but I think it was, at best, thoughtless for an American movie in 2024 to copy/paste the same anti-Romani sequences from a 1920s German film

my nosferatu review: a significant improvement over dracula plotwise and horninesswise, but why fucking bother adapting dracula if you don’t include the goddamn cowboy
