It took me a full two hours to make myself cook a meal but salmon cooked with Cajun spices and brown sugar is, I discover, culinary crack. Either that or a month of frozen food and takeout has left my tastebuds overly grateful.

If I haven’t commented on the terrible Bondi Beach tragedy, it’s because I’m struggling to finish grading a pile of essays. All I can say is kudos to the Australian PM’s response — to make their tough gun laws even tougher. And bless the man who — gunless — tackled and took down one of the shooters.

I was today years old when I learned about the Catalan Caga Tió, the Shit Log, and I am now totally on board with this: at Christmas a log with a creepy little face is beaten with sticks while a song is sung to make it poop out gifts for children. How is this not the real spirit of Christmas?
