Craig Strong recently installed a new, more efficient grain dryer on his farm; it was supposed to be funded, in part, by a federal program to reduce the need for fossil fuels in rural communities.

Now, he and other farmers aren't sure they'll be paid back.

New York farmers continue to wait on frozen USDA funds
Many farmers already paid for equipment that the federal government said it would reimburse. Now, it’s unclear when or if they’ll get that money.

This is a gut-wrenching, beautifully written essay. A doctor must watch helplessly as children die because USAID's freeze on aid has limited access to nutritional supplements. time.com/7258248/us-f...

Happy book publication day! Writing and researching Unforgettable Sacrifice was a journey. I am forever grateful to my family and community kinskeepers who inspired the book and ensured that I narrated their past with accuracy, dignity, and respect. 1/3

My favorite Kurt Vonnegut quote--"you are what you pretend to be"--comes from Mother Night, a novel about an American spy who pretends to be a Nazi propagandist only to realize later in life he was just being a Nazi propagandist
Think I’ll pass on the piece in which a racist creep explains why a major party embracing the Nazi salute really isn’t a big deal.

The Trump Justice Department is declining to prosecute a sitting Republican Congressman who was referred to them by the DC police for beating a woman.
BIG: DC Metro Police decided they had sufficient evidence to arrest sitting GOP Congressman and sent warrant request to USATTY's office. Acting USATTY Martin, who's been explicitly acting as Trump's personal attorney, ignored it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/big-b...

And when Peter Beter ran for Governor in WVA in 1968 (getting 1782 votes in the Republican primary out of about 170,000 cast) he was best known for wearing tuxedos and mink bow ties on the campaign trail, while campaigning as a George Wallace-esque populist who will help disabled coal miners.
