Screenwriter always trying to make room for a little poetry. Writing films that feature powerful female characters taking on thorny problems. Indie films and festivals rule. 🤓💪 Long live independent voices in art and media.
Just make sure to see this movie in a theatre. I beg you. You’ll be glad you did. #pta

Great to connect with some writer pals and see all the amazing work being produced in my hometown and across BC! Was inspiring to see so many young writers and artists still fiercely going after their art and putting it out there. Thanks Word Vancouver for a soul-filling day. #bcwriters

I’ve been reading Graydon Carter’s book, When the Going Was Good: An Editor's Adventures During the Last Golden Age of Magazines, and could weep at the support (and $), his writers got at Vanity Fair. Also wonderful stories of his early life in Canada. A wonderful read.

Finally watched I’m Still Here and it is incredibly relevant right now. A cautionary tale of there ever was one Canada. Incredible acting and beautiful cinematography but sobering insight into Brazil’s history. 🇨🇦 Vote Canada, it matters!

Saw The Brutalist and it’s so obvious how deeply Brady Cornet loves the art of filmmaking. It’s in every shot, every frame and story beat. And Adrien Brody should take the Oscar. Full stop.
I loved the intermission image too. ❤️ #scriptsky

Some English Bay vibes for you. Took a very short writing weekend away but so glad I did. Sometimes just leaving for 48 hours can give your story a real lift. ✍️ #scriptsky #screenwriting

The silver lining of the deep freeze happening in Vancouver right now is I will be forced to stay home this weekend and write and get something out of my mind, off my computer and into a publisher’s inbox. 📥 📝 #writing

I was not prepared for the power of Small Things Like These. It asks you into its world in a gentle way then utterly breaks your heart. An important film written by Enda Walsh, adapted from the book by Claire Keegan about the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland. Cillian Murphy is brilliant. #filmsky

A few great books I read this year. Not new as in latest bestsellers, but new to me. I find new books kind of expensive and often find barely used books with price tags still on them in thrift stores. When I do buy, it’s from a local bookstore. Or the Library! 📚 🥰🎄🎁 #booksky

Giving back to my local theatre and volunteering for some usher duty. Sweet to see a lot of kids coming out to an evening show at the White Rock Players. Kind of fun to be working front of house and not be in the booth or backstage ready to vomit from nerves. 😬 #theatre

Took a break from writing today and I don’t regret it. Sometimes you just have to get away from the page to soak in some nature and inspiration. #scriptsky #amwriting

I recently rewatched a Taste of Things flawlessly directed by Trần Anh Hùng and honestly, it’s a perfect film. And seriously underrated in my humble opinion. A true feast for the senses and I guarantee it will give you a gorgeous few hours of respite. Juliette Binoche is incandescent. #scriptsky

Remembrance Day here in Canada and I’m thinking of my dad and all the others who fought for our freedom. Who knew I’d be worried about them in 2024 but here we are. I won’t let his sacrifice be for nought I can tell you that. (My dad far left with his fellow Spitfire pilots for the RCAF.)
