“Scandinavian transplant cultures”

that’s rich coming from a guy whose dad wouldn’t have been considered white at the time Minnesota was getting its Scandinavian transplants

I'm sorry you don't understand the difference between satire and fake news. here are some reading-level-appropriate resources that might help

and this was at a public school in a working class area in the south, so it’s not like anything but the athletics program was well funded, so it can’t have been just a “rich kids’ school” thing

they still do

I’m sorry that more of their satire than you’d like nowadays is political in nature but perhaps its popularity is indicative of something about their readership and the current political climate

the replies to the quoted post sure are something. I guess some people think it’s asking too much to expect the nominal opposition party to actually meaningfully oppose the majority party or even significantly differentiate themselves from them?

CRTs used to be able to do more than 60 Hz. we are merely rediscovering and improving upon the old ways

ok next question which admittedly I probably should have asked myself before making my original post and raising that as a possibility, how would special spying permissions for a specific app not amount to the same kind of backdoor
January 26, 2026 at 1:43 PM
I don’t disagree that people should quit TikTok and delete the app but like why would the government demand secret enhanced permissions for TikTok instead of just demanding an OS-level back door that doesn’t rely on people installing a specific app

they’re just trying to paint the charger to match the wall

I have seen one person express that precise combination of views at someone, but otherwise yeah, plain old collective guilt/"Americans voted for this!" seems to be the order of the day
January 21, 2026 at 6:58 PM
but I guess if they just directly told us to kill ourselves, they’d get banned
January 21, 2026 at 5:53 PM
I especially love the people who suggest that if you’re an American anything short of martyring yourself (however symbolically or ineffectually) is morally equivalent to direct material support and the only ethical course of action is to jam the gears of fascist imperialism with your own body
January 21, 2026 at 5:52 PM
really this is all just more evidence for the flaws and conflict inherent in the concept of “social media”. “media” makes us all publishers, all Brands, and alienates us from each other, making our relationships parasocial, not social

(“yet you participate in social media. curious!”)

…which, of course, some people on here also think you should be; I’m sure we’ve all seen people on here barging into threads like “why are you talking about this thing I don’t like. you should talk about the things that I like.”, though admittedly usually such people aren’t also alt text scolds
January 20, 2026 at 3:29 PM
and in that context, adding alt text isn’t a “putting your shopping cart away” type moral litmus test. in that context, you’re no more obligated to make your posts for your 7 friends accessible to outsiders than you are to make a conversation you’re having in a public place accessible to outsiders
January 20, 2026 at 3:29 PM
in that scenario, you know your entire audience: it’s those 7 people and if none of them needs alt text or cares, why bother. bsky is basically a self-leaking group chat for you, you’re not thinking about your posts being seen by others. nor should you! and that’s a perfectly valid way to use bsky!
January 20, 2026 at 3:29 PM
like if you’re just posting for the amusement of yourself and your seven friends who follow each other or whatever, it’s not your responsibility to make sure that your posts are maximally accessible to literally anyone just in case the Eye of Sauron’s fell gaze—I mean the Discover feed notices you
