Across history, people's tribunals have provided a space for survivors to be heard in the face of efforts to silence them, a platform for facts to be sought despite misinfo and disinfo & an opportunity to build momentum for justice capable of challenging long-standing impunity.

This particular tribunal's mandate focuses on any crimes and human rights violations that the women and girls of Afghanistan have been subject to or that they continue to be subject to by the Taliban since Aug 15, 2021.

This week I'm in Madrid where I am humbled to be serving as a judge for the People’s Tribunal for Women of Afghanistan, an independent, civil society-led tribunal that is meant to offer a parallel form of justice in the absence of an ongoing international court proceeding.

“Beirut’s Public Prosecutor ultimately charged Riad Salameh—along with his brother Raja and his assistant Marianne Hoayek—with crimes including public funds embezzlement, forgery, illicit enrichment, money laundering, and tax evasion.

…Salameh has obstructed legal proceedings since then.”

Today, October 1st, would have been Sarah Hegazi's 36th birthday.

Thinking of those from whom she was taken and those whose lives she impacted during her short time on this earth and the years since.

Yes!! Perfect line for this.

In the last two days, I've watched two docuseries on Netflix, "The Program" (on the troubled teen industry) and "Bad Influence" (on kid influencing), and the common thread there is that parenting is serious business and not everyone is equipped for it.

⚖️ The 161 page opinion is filled with interesting legal analysis and insights. Critically, it re-establishes key areas of law that the Trump admin has sought to erase.

Judge Young has yet to rule on the remedies. He will weigh in on them after another hearing in the future.

⚖️ Significantly, the ruling states that noncitizens who are in the United States lawfully have the same free speech rights as citizens. The Trump admin has attempted to claim otherwise, but the judge explained this is a distinction not "found in our history or jurisprudence."

⚖️ In a landmark ruling, today a Reagan-appointed federal judge found that the Trump administration had violated the Constitution by using the threat of deportation to systematically silence noncitizens in academia who protested in support of Palestinians storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Today, September 30 marks a decade since Russia intervened in Syria, giving the Assad regime a brutal lifeline at a time when it was near defeat and contributing to proxy war that upended the lives of so many innocent Syrians.

May the victims of Russia's crimes see justice in a free Syria.
