Amidst the shutdown, it looks like the next meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which was scheduled for October 22-23, is being rescheduled.

Even though it's crisis #192308 in our current time, I don't think it's sufficiently sunk in with ppl in the academic community that getting federal funding for your research will primarily depend on whether Trump political appointees find you and your work useful

IMO this hasn't gotten enough attention: a recent memo at NIH announces that peer review will be devalued in determining which grants get funded, granting more power to political appointees to make decisions based on the admin's whims over scientific merit

Florida's Surgeon General does, however, call measles outbreaks "common" and says he does not believe elimination is a worthwhile goal, "kids are gonna catch stuff...that's a part of health."

I did find this more recent interview where Ladapo doubles down, but seems to be treading carefully (emphasizing repeatedly that vaccines will still be available to those who want them, suggesting uptake will not decline if mandates are removed).

As someone who has paid attention to his public statements for 5+ years, I will be the 1st to say that Bhattacharya often says things that sound great.

But his statements are regularly contradicted by his actions. Especially now, it's critical to pay attention to what he does w the power he wields.

She took Biden to the Supreme Court over free speech. She says Trump is worse.

CDC changed vaccine recs in 2019 for Tdap, so if your tetanus booster was before then you may not have gotten the "p" (whooping cough) part in a while...I learned from experience 😖
