Biden broke with neoliberalism economically in some major ways, but one DEEPLY ingrained cultural trait that persists in the party is a knee-jerk reaction against direct, aggressive government action. everything has to be "by the book" and run through obscure tax credits and shit

These terms are acceptable.
Some House Freedom Caucus members are screaming payback if Dems successfully force a vote on the House floor to release the Gaetz ethics report, saying it could lead to them getting other reports involving current or former Dem members, per Politico

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.

Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.

every explanation of the election results that isn't just "it was inflation" feels incredibly unconvincing.

The only legacy of his that will not be undone over the next 4 years will be his unwavering support for a war criminal- to the direct detriment of his mostly good efforts to maintain and strengthen US relationships elsewhere.
No one will remember President Biden's temporary economic policies between two Trump administrations. He will largely be remembered as a failed politician who did not forcefully resist fascism at home, choosing instead to enable war crimes overseas.
1/The State Department spokesperson just now says, in effect, the U.S. has not assessed that Israel is violating U.S. laws on humanitarian aid in Gaza. So there will be no cut off of military aid to Israel.
