His words and actions didn't just impact those in his immediate circle, it fed into a much larger culture of hatred. The art he made in his bigotry will echo through the ages long after he's gone.
If he changes, that's a positive for him personally, not for society at large. He can stay gone.

Nah, he can stay gone even then. We need to stop forgiving this crap, especially from the most powerful and privileged. He was not some random citizen, he was one of the most famous people in the country with a ridiculous amount of influence and millions of fans.
