Sìth Chailleann (Fairy Hill of the Caledonians)
This Gaelic name, associated with Schiehallion, translates to Fairy Hill and reflects the belief in the sìth (fairy folk) who were thought to inhabit such places. Schiehallion was considered a liminal space between worlds.

Coire
‘Coire’ isn’t actually too different from the word it means in English which is Corrie or Cauldron. If you didn’t know, a corrie is a land form that’s a deep hollow found on the side of a mountain where a glacier first formed.

Beinn Nibheis (Ben Nevis)
The highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis’s Gaelic name might mean Mountain of Heaven or Venomous Mountain, hinting at its awe-inspiring and potentially dangerous nature. Some legends describe it as a place inhabited by spirits.

Later, they transformed into St. Brigid of Kildare, also known as St. Bride, Mary of the Gaels. St. Bride was the foster mother of Christ, who flew across time & space to hold the infant Christ for a night when Mary had a crisis in new motherhood. There's so much depth and tenderness in the story.

She is entwined at the roots with our Scottish goddess of Spring, Bride, who escapes the Cailleach to release the forces of new life. But they are separate deities. Both are celebrated at Imbolc.
