Hi @koosdogmillionaire.bsky.social
I hope you guys had a good New Year's ❤️. I was home w Amy's frozen ravioli (not good!) and a beer. I still don't have a kitchen.

Time to sideline these smarmy, self-important progs. They're high on their own supply, squeeing about Mamdani. Time to make a show of force for the reality-based. It's possible to show fight from anywhere on the left/center-left spectrum. We can ask our reps to do it without this drama queen shit.

Bingo.

Amen! ❤️

So cool!

I love that many congs have affiliated UU pagan groups. Plenty have affiliated vipassana groups. There are UU Jews, UU Hindus, UU Christians & UU atheists. Although I decided I wasn't meant to be a UU minister, I really appreciate the denom. Great people.

My experience is that Christian UUs exist but are rare, at least in Midwestern & Western congs. Boston has King's Chapel, a Christian UU church that follows an older Anglican liturgy. But every cong is different! I haven't affiliated in 25 years though.

Urge @liberallibrarian.bsky.social (and everyone!) to read RW Emerson's "Divinity School Address." It lays it out beautifully (his writing is so beautiful). Transcendentalism is impt in American UU history. I got goosebumps standing in the chapel where he gave the address. ❤️

In New England, the Unitarians split from Congregationalism in early 19th c. Keep the liberalism but differ on the trinity.
January 2, 2026 at 10:32 PM
But yeah, the UCC, which is the modern form of very old Congregationalism, is the most progressive of actual Christian denominations. They are indeed impt in the host of antislavery.

I think its roots are theological/'heresy' from trinitarianism & lie in Europe, specifically Servetus. But in North America, merged w Christian Universalism in 1961 & became post-Christian.

Yes, impt point - a big part of UU community is (liberal/progressive) activism! For some members, it's the primary way they engage. I love Howard Thurman's words often quoted in UU congs:
"Keep fresh before me the
moments of my High Resolve"

I should add that atheists like yourself are well represented in UU congs, esp in urban areas, but mutual respect is impt. You'll meet many ppl from a wide range of religious/cultural backgrounds & spiritualties.

In Oakland, CA for example, the UU community is not as white.

I spent quite a lot of time w UUs & considered ministry when I was in Div School. The joke is that a UU is the person reading ahead in the hymn to decide whether they're gonna sing it. It's about walking together, not all believing the same thing. A little too white, but not as much in big cities.
