Totally agree. But it’s what most scientists I know are most scared of. I’ve looked at agriculture projections for the Midwest, and while the uncertainty is massive, people deserve to know that even the lower range (of crop losses) would be scary. Issues with uncertainty shouldn’t mean we avoid it.

I rarely see public communications about projections for water/food scarcity in specific regions. Maybe because it’s deemed too scary or uncertain by news outlets. But, I have an inkling that showing projected ranges of loss would inspire more passion/action than pretty much anything else.

I’d like to clarify it was about direct air capture. That was the first time I heard the 70% figure for captured carbon being used to extract more oil!

I saw Mark Jacobson, a professor at Stanford, give a great talk about the illegitimacy of carbon capture at AGU. The conversation around net zero and the use of carbon capture got pretty heated, and he was very adamant that it was all greenwashing. Maybe another good person to talk to!
