I’d assumed wildfire fighters all wore respirators. I’m shocked. The Forest Service needs to make this right.

“Internal records, studies and interviews with current and former agency officials reveal another motivation: Embracing masks would mean admitting how dangerous wildfire smoke really is.”

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.

Tens of thousands on the National Mall for the #HandsOff protest against Trump & Musk.

There must be over a million people protesting across every US state today.

🚨Academic scientist friends who are members-ideally leaders- of scientific professional societies, I need your help. 🚨

There is a sign-letter being prepared that will speak out against recent politicization of scientific funding and demonization of scientific researchers.

van Eck, C. W., Messling, L., & Hayhoe, K. (2024). Challenging the neutrality myth in climate science and activism. Npj Climate Action, 3(1), 81. Abstract We argue that Büntgen’s (2024) claim that climate science must be separated from activism is fundamentally flawed. Activism does not inherently lead to biased science and striving for value-free science is both unattainable and undesirable.
