I also am on the left and have always voted Labour in general elections.

Corbyn should have beaten Boris in 2019 but threw it away.

The problem with the UK and its antiquated voting system is that the Tories are the default party of gvt no matter how badly they mess things up.

I'm not convinced they are at present, especially with no sympathetic media outlets.

Perhaps, but the Labour left of the Corbyn era was the reason they were obliterated in the 2019 election, leading to Starmer's leadership victory and work to make the party electable again.

I disagree with some of his policies and style, but he deserves some credit for the transformation.
