It doesn't help that parts of it are written in such an arcane manner as well. No wonder officials get interpretations wrong in the heat of games.

Maybe having full-time officials might help them with being able to study and apply the rulebook. Just a thought for 365 Park Avenue there...

What's the solution though? Possibly too many issues to address in one posts (realistic possible hosts, commercial considerations, format, holding men's, women's and wheelchair tournaments together or seperately etc) but I get what you're saying

One other thing I meant to mention was the RU international at Wembley the following week between South Africa and Japan only attracted around 23k, and I didn't hear any wailing from them.

Sadly, some people in RL aren't happy unless they're complaining - and it's usually about the wrong thing

One of the (many) things I love about rugby league is how, in this country at least, its a sport which has remained rooted in its communities.

That authenticity is (or should be) one of its greatest strengths. Unfortunately, it's also one of its greatest weaknesses
