The final major work of my PhD is finally out! In this work, we generated genetic switches that exerted enhanced performance upon bacterial encapsulation within materials, leading to switchable protein release from ELMs!

It’s great to see this amazing study published! Congratulations to the whole team 👏🏼 Highly fluorescent probiotic bacteria I engineered are a tiny part of the story.

If interested in expressing any GOI in Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, you might consider using this plasmid www.addgene.org/229145/

Synthetic Biology runs on plasmids and we've got some for engineering lactobacilli that are in high demand!
So, we finally did the sensible thing and deposited them with Addgene to make them easily accessible - www.addgene.org/Shrikrishnan...

These are alginate beads containing engineered Lactobacillus. Our promoter is so strong that turns these probiotic bacteria red even inside materials! 🧬

Cool? Stay tuned! #elm #synbio

Hi All,

I have noticed that there are several SynBio starter packs but none focused mainly on bacteria. I have created a bacterial synthetic biology starter pack to discuss and share some cool SynBio ideas. Looking forward to see some intriguing SynBio posts on the feed !

I thought it would be a good idea to create a starter pack for Engineered Living Materials so the community can grow and post in this platform.

Please share and feel free to contact me or comment if you want to be added (or removed)!
