Literally the opposite of reality. The liberals were the “bleeding hearts.” Why do you think “liberal” has been a pejorative in conservative circles since forever? This was contrasted with classical “capital L” Liberalism.

It’s so on-the-nose. And really touches on what bothers me so much about modern media coverage of politics, and by association what is considered acceptable or even laudable for politicians to do.
