27/ 🌡️With regard to the temperature threshold relevant for today's ruling, the Court affirms, building on science and COP decisions, that the 1.5c temperature target must be understood as the internationally agreed objective of climate policies!

25/ Through this clear statement, the Court puts to rest - hopefully once and for all - the bad faith legal argument used by polluters to claim that the climate agreements protect them from accountability for climate harms.

14/ 🎇 On the sources of law considered for this ruling, the Court emphasizes that it has considered the entire corpus of international law as requested by the UNGA resolution. This is an important announcement! Let me explain...

13/ 🗺️Regarding the territorial scope of its analysis: the court points to the fact that the 🇺🇳UNGA did not impose territorial limits to the inquiry and stresses that GHG emissions are unequivocally caused by human activities which are not territorially limited.

12/ On the material scope of this legal inquiry, the court affirms that it will address the full range of human activities that contribute to climate change as a result of the emission of GHGs including both consumption and production activities. - this is promising!

10/ 🔥Judge Iwasawa Yuji quotes straight from the IPCC: "Warming of 1.5°C is not considered 'safe' for most nations, communities, ecosystems and sectors, and poses significant risks to natural and human systems." - this is a very strong basis for the Court's legal conclusions!

Sorry to burden you with another jaw-dropping scandal. But what the government intends to do to chemicals regulation in the UK is chilling. Its consultation was slipped out so quietly that most of us missed it. When I read it, I saw why.

Want to import toxic chemicals into Britain with scant scrutiny? Labour says: go right ahead | George Monbiot
Jacob Rees-Mogg’s Tory fantasy of a post-Brexit bonfire of regulations is coming true. Our bodies and ecosystems will pay the price, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

This is deeply frustrating. There are undoubtedly issues with our planning system, but the idea it was the primary cause of HS2’s insane costs is absurd. We managed to build HS1 without blaming bats for everything.
dangrey.bsky.social
Rachel Reeves yesterday: " The reason HS2 is no longer coming to Leeds anytime soon is because we care more about the bats than we do about commuter times"

How could the Chancellor, for goodness sake, be anymore wrong?

HS2 is a textbook case of how not manage the procurement, planning and design

It would be a lot simpler, and more effective, to provide all people seeking asylum with the right to work. It has public and cross party support, helps protect against exploitation, helps people rebuild lives faster, and reduces Home Office costs. #r4today

It was no battle, still recollect how a woman I knew who was there described the police smashing her van windows in (her home) as she tried to shelter her children, she was not fighting.

Good to see the government is drawing up the terms of reference for the Battle of Orgreave public inquiry - but this wasn’t an isolated event. Let’s not forget the grossly excessive police violence used against Travellers at the Battle of the Beanfield in 1985 www.gypsy-traveller.org/news/40-year...
