Well this is admirably concise and direct by Germany's justice ministry.

"Chat control without cause must be taboo in a state governed by the rule of law. Private communication must never be under general suspicion."

THANK YOU […]

I'm told by @Privacymatters that Germany has stayed strong and blocked the Council majority, so chat control is dead (for now)!

Thank you, everyone who's worked like a dog to stop this nonsense. Again...

Gods I'm too fucking old and tired to rehearse the 'don't break E2E encryption' debate AGAIN, but here we are. This time the novel twist is 'client side scanning' of every European's device for CSAM, just in case.

I no longer make many arguments on principle. This open letter to the Irish […]

@gimulnautti every. single. time.

I think we stay the same people in the room (or more usually kicked out of it!) but the politicians and their aides are constantly changing and each time they fall for the BS

so much energy every single time. still. worth it! […]

Side point on #chatcontrol: When I worked on the law in the European Parliament, in the face of questionably legal, and highly problematic behavior by DG HOME, I prepared a whitepaper on why it was such a terrible Idea.

As it is in the public interest, I have decided to make that white paper […]

A Venetian house front abutting a canal, pretty much the embodiment of the phrase "elegant decay". A symmetrical arrangement on two storeys - in the centre of the image, two tall arched doorways one directly above the other (the upper one with a white marble Juliette balcony in front of it) flanked by rectangular windows on either side. The house wall is grey-white, and streaked with the dirt of ages. The two lower storey windows have metal bars in front of them, the right hand one backed by a grey-white curtain, and the left hand one showing only blackness beyond. On the upper storey, both windows and the door have wooden shutters painted in a dark teal blue colour, but the paint is chipped and cracking. The focus of the image is the door on the ground floor - it too is painted in the same dark teal blue, but where the sun has faded it on the floor above, the top of the door has nestled in the shadow of the little balcony, so remains arrestingly deep and vibrant and intense. On the lower part of the door however, not only the paint but the wood of the door itself have been worn away by the lapping water, leaving the bottom edge jagged and uneven, and giving the building an air of utter abandonment and decay. The strip of canal water visible at the bottom of the frame is greeny-blue, and there is a small white-crested wave directly in front of the door. The image looks more like a watercolour painting than a photo.

"Tony Blair is ready to govern Gaza" the non-solution truly no one asked for. It's neo-colonial, condescending, absolutely useless, so many levels of absurd, I really can't figure out what anyone except for him would get out of this.

@jamesjefferies oh my goodness, yes please! i'm [email protected] if you wouldn't mind? thanks a million. now that is exciting.

Congratulations to @Mastodon for launching its new service offerings. It’s win-win: we all need a strong Mastodon organization, and organizations looking to onboard need expert help from people who know. This only benefits the ecosystem and I’m excited to see it.

🇪🇺YES: Germany is not supporting the EU's #chatcontrol bill as proposed!
The blocking minority needed to stop this illegal mass surveillance plan seems secured (for now). ✅

Opposition now also from LU🇱🇺 & SK🇸🇰!

A map of Europe titled "Help Stop #ChatControl!" shows countries color-coded by their government's stance on Chat Control in 2025. The legend indicates: green for "Not in favour," blue for "Undecided/Unclear," and red for "In favour."

Countries in favour (red) are: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, and Spain.

Countries not in favour (green) are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia.

Countries undecided or unclear (blue) are: Estonia, Greece, Slovenia, Romania, and Sweden (in favour, but subject to approval by Parliament).

The map includes the text "Is your government opposing it yet?" and a call to action at the bottom: "Act now! www.chatcontrol.eu".

@Privacymatters Be very fucking careful is my advice. Are you using a mac? you need to change your mac's privacy and security settings and add LO to the apps allowed 'inside' if so. And they will not tell you about it on install.

Looks like the issue with @libreoffice which destroyed all my work is a Known Issue with Mac installations that should be shared with all Mac users ON INSTALLATION.

Libre Office stopped responding when I replied with more info.
