The Maringer lab stands with trans people everywhere. Remember: the judges involved urged politicians/media not to weaponise this clarification of terminology in the #equalityact in a senseless culture war. How powerful the pandemic treaty will turn out to be depends on how seriously countries take it, says @nschwalbe.bsky.social.“This agreement definitely provides a recipe and all the ingredients for a world safer from pandemics,” she says. “Countries now need to make it happen.”

My mum works in a hospital and always impressed upon us that “you only get one chance at a good death”. The work in this article is so important for understanding how our demographics affect whether we get to die at home or in hospital.

Interesting that although we now have a close relative for mpox, the ancestry of smallpox (variola virus) is still unknown. The closest viruses are found in camels and gerbils (taterapox), but they ain't that close.

Researchers have been trying for a long time to nail down where in nature mpox lurks.
Now they appear to have caught the virus that causes mpox in the act of spilling over from squirrels to monkeys.
“It is the best clue so far for what the reservoir might be”, says @kgandersen.bsky.social
