The Church lines up with Republicans on abortion and like 2012 Republican views on gay rights (the Church is definitely more supportive than the GOP now), and religious exemptions for religious orgs, and thats pretty much it.

I do think it hurts that police entirely stopped enforcing traffic laws during covid and never really started again -- just threw up some speed and red light cameras.

Probably 75% of the time that I wait for a pedestrian to cross before turning right someone behind me honks at me.

it is a spot foul -- I didn't actually know that when I made the suggestion but someone else asked about it and I looked it up.
mark-frassetto.bsky.social
Although it doesn't really seem like the rule against it would stop you from doing it -- assuming you have more than 10 seconds.
Article 1. Illegal Acts
A team is not permitted to conserve time after the two-minute warning of either half by committing any of these acts:

(a) a foul by either team that stops the clock during any dead ball period;
intentional grounding;
an illegal forward pass;
throwing a backward pass out of bounds;
spiking or throwing the ball in the field of play after a down has ended, except after a touchdown; or
illegally batting or kicking the ball out of bounds.
Penalty: For illegally conserving time: Loss of five yards unless a larger distance penalty is applicable.

Item 1. Actions by the Offense. When actions referred to above are committed by the offensive team while time is in, officials will run off 10 seconds from the game clock and reset the play clock to 30 seconds before permitting the ball to be put in play on the ready for play signal. The game clock will start on the ready for play signal unless another rule prescribes otherwise. If the offensive team has timeouts remaining, it will have the option of using a timeout in lieu of a 10-second runoff, in which case the game clock will start on the snap after the timeout. The defense always has the option to decline the 10-second runoff and have the yardage penalty enforced, but if the yardage penalty is declined, the 10-second runoff is also declined, the play clock is set to 25 seconds, and the clock starts on the snap.

good question that I hadn't thought of at all, but it is the spot of the pass.
mark-frassetto.bsky.social
It'd be a very specific situation, catch the ball down field inside the 40 with between 10-20 seconds left, but it's certainly not an unheard of scenario.
mark-frassetto.bsky.social
Also I think he scored the touchdown.
mark-frassetto.bsky.social
Are there end of game situations where 20 seconds left you throw down the middle into field goal range and then do an illegal forward pass rather than take the tackle? You'd lose 5 yards and 10 seconds but could snap it as the clock starts.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

I suspect the photo of the soldiers is AI, but if it's real I think it's fine to make fun of soldiers engaged in the illegal and unconstitutional occupation of an American city.

I just don't understand at all what the UK is doing, both the current government and the opposition.

Your whole economy was based on being open (finance and education) and you are blowing both of those sectors up to placate some fucking losers protesting immigrants.

This is straight from the fascist playbook. It will ceate fear and mistrust among Democratic groups in Texas and it is ultimately designed to suppress votes.

seeing otherwise smart people share the story that a south carolina judge’s beach house was burned to the ground because of a ruling against trump despite there being no evidence of that has been frustrating. just because the other side has abandoned facts doesn’t mean we can, too.

I just don't think -- "health care premiums will go up if you reelect republicans who just extended those subsidies" is a very strong message.

They need to either actually get the permanent subsidies or fail to get them in a very high profile way that puts all the blame for premiums on Republicans

This is unambiguously a scam by pharmaceutical companies to force people to buy more expensive inhalers.

This is the same scam they used when they forced people to stop using generic CFC inhalers and made them use brand name inhalers instead. Prices went up hundreds of dollars.

This is the current map, which they've kept roughly the same to maintain the racial and economic line between the richer and whiter west county and the less wealthy and more diverse east county.

The weird carveout in Blue is the third most diverse neighborhood int he country.

It's so incredible how low homicide rates are in Europe. The UK, with a population of 70 million people, had fewer than 600 murders in 2023.
