𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿: Hear me read at Last Saturday Poets (Jan 31st 2026)
Give it another hour or so, and it'll be a year exactly since a WhatsApp message from my sister informed me that our father had died.

Speaking of WhatsApp, here's a poem about my (largely textual) relationship with my dad, written roughly 14 months before he passed.

Not too often these days that I join in with things poetic on social media (don't fret – I'm still all about the poetry behind the scenes with @iambapoet.com and @afterpoetry.com), but if anything is likely to make me respond, it's @rfsmith.bsky.social's #promptcombo #memorial. Grief, I know well.

With five days to go until the publication of wave twenty-four of @iambapoet.com, a sneak peek at the new indices page coming to the journal in 2026.

You'll be able to scroll left and right to navigate between waves – and have less far to scroll down. There'll also be an improved search function.

My father always insisted on Santa Claus – so as amusing as this is, it doesn't track for me.

On the 40th anniversary of his passing, here's one of Philip Larkin's greatest poems – 'The Whitsun Weddings'.

I only do this to annoy those who insist winter starts with the December solstice. 😁

Y'see, it's exactly this kind of AI myth-making by mainstream media outlets that gives LLMs a bad rap.

I entered what you see in the screenshot, after reading what you'll find in this linked @theguardian.com article: bit.ly/4r60RQv

Clearly, it's bullshit.

I see you ... 😉

For @hool415.bsky.social's #workinglove #promptcombo this week, a new thing about new love. Inspired, I think, by those older couples you see in parks on office lunch breaks: acting like teenagers, rapt in each other, obviously falling in love – all anticipations visibly laced with their anxieties.

Seriously, who gives a fucking shit?

There's only one double-barrel this child-raping cunt should be faced with ...

Tell me, which of these images is genuine, and which was produced using AI?

Another issue of this triumph of modern poetry publishing landed on my doormat today. To call it a journal is to do it a disservice; the quality of its production equal in every way to that of the work between its covers. Kudos to @maxwallis.bsky.social for having the vision to make this happen.

Speaking of poetry open mics, I almost missed Lime Square Poets' session last night with Hannah Kiely. Thank God for phone reminders! Another great evening from our friends across the water in Ireland. I read my poem 'Parliament' – one I've aired at a few open mics since the summer.

For @victoriaspires.bsky.social's #promptcombo this week, something in the manner of #dreamlogic, albeit not from a human perspective. This comes from Release One of @subruria.com.

This do you, John?

The #promptcombo challenge this week (set by @victoriaspires.bsky.social) is on the theme of #ancestry. As luck would have it, I recently finished this little poem – a brief comment on my noticing that my late paternal grandmother's eyebrows had made their way, genetically, to my daughter's face.

This open letter to a plagiarist by @rustandmoth.bsky.social is an outstanding example of not only how to lay axe to the root of this pernicious literary theft but also how to appeal to the guilty party's better nature without dragging them, triggering a pile-on or destroying a chance at redemption.

May as well switch her over to this. Too late to change her.
